Datasheets
Datasheets are available on request for specific modules, installation, and help with selecting the most appropriate products for your situation.
Power Requirements
All our modules are low-voltage devices (12V) and are supplied with suitable mains adaptors which plug into a standard socket. Where multiple modules are connected together (for example a twin beam unit and a wireless transmitter) they will normally be configured to use a single mains adaptor. For remote sites long life rechargeable batteries are available.
Wireless Connection
Short-range devices operate reliably up to 25m and long-range devices up to 500m,
although greater distances can be achieved depending upon the environment.
Wireless devices should be placed away from sources of interference
such as CRT displays, and operate best if there are no obstructions between
the transmitter and receiver. Obstructions and interference will reduce the operating
range.
Wired Connection
Simple 2-core signal cable is all that is required for each single sensor.
The dual-beam modules include 2 sensors and thus require 4 cores. Security or
telephone type cable is suitable, and multi-core cable can be used for multiple
sensors (eg 6-core cable can serve up to 3 sensors).
If your building has structured cabling installed (eg 'Cat.5') this
may be utilised and we can provide our devices with the appropriate connectors.
Installation
All the modules are easy to install and setup, and
specific instructions for each type of device are detailed in
the documentation provided with the product.
- Beam units need to be fixed securely to a wall on one side of the doorway, typically 1m above the floor, with a reflector on the other side (normally on an opposing wall).
- Proximity devices may be fixed above the doorway, facing down.
- Wireless transmitters are located close to the sensors, ideally above the door height.
- Receivers are free-standing modules placed near the computer.
System Requirements
The software runs on any current version of Microsoft Windows (95/98/W2k/Me/XP), and can be installed either as a stand-alone application on a single computer or on a server for a central database. On a networked system the sensors can be connected to any computer and the data will be recorded centrally. The reporting can be done on any computer on the network.
The sensors are connected to serial (COM) ports. USB serial ports can be used, so if your computer has no spare ports it is easy to add one using a USB device.
